Storage Policy

Diyode is a community workshop and there is not enough space for excessive personal storage. Any item left in the shop that doesn’t follow this policy is considered a donation.

The Storage Shelves:
Positioned along the front wall of the woodshop, adjacent to the tools boxes and entrance area. Storage in this area is divided into a few different categories:

  • Member short-term storage (projects drying from applications in layup)
  • General long-term storage consumables (spare parts, consumables, activity bins etc.). Raw materials such as wood, plywood, metal, plastics and so forth are not considered long-term storage consumables and are subject to removal by the shop maintenance committee.

The Free Bin:
Positioned in the clean room along the far wall. Storage in this area may only contain plywood, wood or materials used for laser cutting. None of these materials may be claimed by a member, and all members are welcome to immediately use any item in the Free Bin.

Consumables Storage:
If consumables are available for all members to use, they will be stored in the yellow explosives and chemical cabinet, or labeled in the storage adjacent to the miter saw. Individual member must store their personal consumables outside of shop, or in paid storage areas.

Raw Materials Storage:
Outside of the short term storage shelves and the free bin, no raw materials or projects are to be stored at the shop by members. (e.g. wood, plywood, metal, plastics, components, electronics etc.)

Labeling of Materials/Projects:
All projects in short term storage must be labeled with the labels provided and must include: Member name, start date, and end date. The end date must not exceed 2 weeks from the start date. Labels are considered expired when the end date has passed.

Unlabeled Materials or Projects:
Any unlabeled materials or projects, including those with expired labels, left unattended for an extended period of time (1+ weeks), are considered donations to Diyode subject, without notice, to the following actions: discarded, repurposed, gifted to other members, removed by the directors.

Paid Storage Lockers:
Lockers can be rented by members (as available) for a charge of $22 per month. If payment for lockers is not kept up to date, members will be given notice and one week to remove items, else the shop maintenance committee has the right to remove any lock and empty a locker space.

Failure to follow policy:
Members found improperly storing materials will be initially issued a warning with the expectation they remedy improperly stored materials. Repeated issues may be referred to the disciplinary policy as stated in membership agreement.
