What is Ramp It Up?
Ramp It Up is Diyode’s community-led initiative to improve accessibility for local businesses in Guelph. Many storefronts still face step barriers that make them difficult or impossible to access for people using mobility devices, strollers, or walkers. So, our members have taken to design, build, and finish custom wooden ramps to bridge these gaps, making businesses more welcoming and inclusive.
The ramps are designed using Stop Gap’s system: For every 1 inch in height, the ramp is 6 inches horizontally. While it is steeper than a permanent concrete accessibility ramp, it is a trade off that allows these ramps to be more portable. We have teamed up with Art Not Shame! Now, businesses ordering ramps will have the additional option to have an artist decorate their ramps.
Where can I find one?
We are happy to announce that, on the 19th November, 2025, we delivered and installed our proof of concept ramp at the local consignment store Consign Your Curves at 54 Elizabeth St! Thank you to City Councillor Carly Klassen for connecting us.
How do I get involved?
We are excited to start creating ramps for the community once our woodshop returns to full operation.
If you would like an accessibility ramp for your home or business or want to volunteer making them, please express your interest here.
